Although before their expected life span ends, some inventions begin to vanish, others remain long past their expiry date. Windows 7 is one example of the above species, with unbroken success a year after Microsoft ended support for it in January 2020.
In the absence of Microsoft security patches, Windows 7 is now operating on tens of millions of computers worldwide, just like Windows XP before it, even though its use poses a potential threat. And while this may not be a major concern in terms of private users, companies that are notoriously slow to keep their IT infrastructure up to date may be exposed to higher security risks.
