In the run-up to International Women's Day, PwC has published its annual report on women's equality and health at work in 33 OECD countries. In 2017 the Women in Work Index 2019 took a range of steps such as fair pay, women's ability to obtain work and job stability.

Iceland was rated Best Developed Country for women staff with an index score of 79.1 The second was Sweden 76.1, while New Zealand 73.6 had completed the top three. Scandinavian countries took five of the top-10 slots while English-speaking countries are the world's largest economies. The United Kingdom finished in 11th place.

The United States has a big gap, scoring just 61.1, placing it 23rd. Luxembourg and Poland have raised the index the most since 2000, and Portugal, the United States and Austria have fallen the most during that period.

PwC said women's job growth would bring enormous economic benefits in all OECD countries. Of example, the US must boost the economy by $1.8 trillion to match the women's job rate in Sweden. The combined GDP growth would be more than $6 trillion if all OECD countries copied Sweden.
