As we approach July 4th during the pandemic, we agreed to ask visitors to our website about their holiday plans. We wanted to know if coronavirus will affect how people spend this day, and whether their political preferences play any role in their choices of festivities and precautions. In the survey conducted on between 15 June and 19 June 2020 1,208 website users participated. Relevant spotted observations, like:

  • Republicans (52 percent) are 3.5x more likely than Democrats (15 percent) to socialize and meet others.
  • Democrats are 4 times more likely to attend a virtual gathering (13 per cent) than Republicans (4 per cent).
  • Republicans (19%) are 6 times more likely to miss precautions against coronavirus than Democrats (3%).
  • Republicans are almost twice as likely as Democrats to use patriotic elements such as flags, streamers and balloons during the celebration (63% vs. 35%).
