The easy way to protect yourself from these emails is to create inbox filters, report dangerous emails, not advertise your email address and manage existing messages.

Panda Security recounts that Gmail servers block 18 million e-mails per day. Spam and other unwanted emails manage to get through their servers though.

Begin by locating the three dots on the right side of the unwanted post, to create custom filters on Gmail. Next pick "Filter These messages." You can build your own settings from there, or use the rules that auto-populate Gmail.
