Most Americans hold the dream of starting their own small company. Knowing where a business would be ideally positioned to thrive can be overwhelming. This map shows the top 100 most populous metro areas in the United States, using the Small Business Index. The Small Business Ranking includes 10 main factors.

These variables include 1-year start-up survival rate, 20-year survival rate, company births, business deaths, unemployment rate, state corporate taxes, private employer unemployment rate, new employer state unemployment insurance rate, average rental price, and minimum wage. Greensboro-High Point, North Carolina placed top of the table with 287.23.

Second location is the Durham-Chapel Hill, North Carolina, with a ranking of 277.36. Indeed, plenty of North Carolina towns dominate the top of the charts. Low taxes for small businesses are an important part of that benefit. Madison, Wisconsin is the best place to stay, with just 1,096 establishments near by since 1989-2015.
