It was described in the early 1980s as "The Silent Epidemic,"1 elderly dementia soon became an invitation to government around the globe to explain health experts. Incidence of dementia in people older than 80 years specifically explains the crisis.

 This' ancient' population will continue to grow in many countries around the globe, particularly wealthy ones, and the dementia epidemic will increase worldwide as it is the largest proportion of dementia cases.

While population-based studies or survey data show a declining age-specific prevalence or rate incidence among those born later in the first half of the 20th century, recent studies reveal an increase in the number of dementia cases.

These accounts fascinate us, and warn us about possible changes that lead to the epidemic of this often tragic situation. We think these studies are often important for better control of epidemics, including those involving chronic diseases, so we understand what factors contribute to the research, development and prevention.
