When ship builders started installing copper regularly in the mid-19th century to shield the masts of wooden ships from lightning, the special relationship between copper and electricity has been evident. Of course, today you might be more used to seeing copper electrical applications through the use of power lines, telephone wires, and wiring in nearly every major home appliance you own.
Millions of tons are used annually for these applications, but there are still early days to use copper for electrification. This is because copper will continue to be a critical element of the green power revolution due to the growing adoption of battery-powered cars.
