Like they say, love makes the world go round.' They also argue that true love rarely goes smoothly. This is certainly true of the relationship-based Marvel Universe, beginning with the flagship title The Fantastic Four, which broke from the company's tradition of publishing monster comics to depict an adventurer family.

The family dynamics surrounding these four characters brought something new to the comic pages— a relationship between an aloof scientist and a young woman who grew up to learn the full extent of her influence, a broken thing that couldn't fully believe in the love she found, a brash young man who often allows his heart to overpower his common feeling.

The new and different approach to storytelling brought a range of experiences to life that separated, romantically and otherwise, the developing Marvel Universe. Happy marriages, bitter breakups, love triangles, surprise marriages and covert affairs. At least one stalker was looking for her twisted revenge at gunpoint.

There are mothers and children who have a good bond with each other — and those who get to know each other late in life about their relationships. And there are people like brothers who just can't see eye-to-eye, and there's a heated debate between them that draws longstanding relationships throughout the world's superhero society, wrecking painfully as each is forced to take sides. The Marvel Universe here has also altered 19 relationships, and one that nearly destroyed them.
