A Istanbul court on May 7 sentenced Cansu Pişkin, a journalist for the left-wing daily Evrensel, to 10 months in jail for "setting a target for a civil servant for terrorist organisations," Medyascope's TV news website noted.

The court suspended the sentence of Pişkin in the next five years, with the exception of a recurring felony. In a news article, Pişkin included the name of a lawyer in a case against a group of college pupils protesting the military intervention of Turkey in Syria in 2018. In the final hearing, Pişkin pleaded not guilty.

Her defense team said that their client did not intend to turn the prosecutor into an goal by including his name in the post, pointing out that the name of the prosecutor was also included in other media papers.
